A joint expedition to Gyaros was organised by MOm’s and WWF Greece’s field teams together with a few volunteers for a very special and demanding action: the cleanup of a submerged cave on the island. The cave, that ends up at a protected beach, is frequented by the Mediterranean Monk Seal population of Gyaros, who use it to rest and feed their pups. Thus, it was necessary for the all marine debris and garbage that pose a threat to the species to be removed. The expedition was quite challenging but it was worth the effort: the cave is now clean and safe to be used by the seals.
