The Hellenic Ornithological Society and NCC, a consultancy agency have decided to join forces in order to look into the importance and the current conservation status of the Puffinus yelkouan in Gyaros, an internationally endangered species. This very important colony is one of the biggest in our country and was discovered in 2014 during a joint expedition by WWF Greece and the Hellenic Ornithological Society for the purposes of the CYCLADES LIFE project. The ultimate goal of this common study for this rare seabird, which was formulated in order to monitor the impact of the project on the terrestrial environment of Gyaros, is to learn more on the yelkouan shearwater population of the island. Subsequently, it will be possible to put forward specific measures for the conservation and management of the species.
