The first research expedition for 2014, but second for the current winter, proved to be quite a surprise for MOm’s team in the field! One more monk seal pup was sighted during this expedition bringing the pup count of this pupping period to 9 births! This survey has been the last for this season, since the Mediterranean monk seals distributed in Eastern Mediterranean basin give birth between August and January every year. MOm’s research activities will continue in the coming Spring, when the team will install the metal mounting units of the automatic infrared digital cameras in marine caves and beaches that are used as resting and breeding habitat by Gyaros’ monk seals.
