During the last weekend of April, a second joint avifauna expedition was organised in Gyaros by WWF Greece and the Hellenic Ornithological Society for the purposes of the project CYCLADES LIFE. The aim of the expedition was to discover the importance and the conservation status of the Yelkouan Shearwater Puffinus yelkouan colony, an internationally threatened sea bird. This rare colony is one of the biggest of this species in the country and was discovered during the last joint avifauna expedition by the two non governmental organisations which took place in the summer of 2014 in Gyaros for the purposes of the project.
