First survey of the fish diversity in the coralligenous reef around Gyaros by the University of Patras

For the purposes of CYCLADES LIFE, the Laboratory of Zoology of the Biology Department of the University of Patras  conducted the first study of the fish diversity found in the coralligenous reef around Gyaros. Known also as tragana,  the coralligenous reef has very high biodiversity and is created by calcarerous algae and forms an importnat part of the mediterranean habitat. In the Western Mediterranean, where it can be found in shallower depths than in the Eastern part of the basin, it has been studied. However, not much is known for this specific type of habiat in the Eastern Mediterranean.
