A digital event for the discovery of the unknown island of Gyaros

The CYCLADES LIFE team organized a digital campaign by inviting the public to participate to a full-day field expedition to Gyaros through Facebook. On the 17th of February 2016, the field team traveled to Gyaros and guided the participants of the event through the exile prison buildings, dived in the cold waters of the island and climbed to the mountaintop to admire the Cycladic landscape. Those who participated to the event (more than 1300 people followed digitally the expedition) entered automatically to a draw that will allow 2 lucky participants to attend during spring time to a volunteer action on the field at Gyaros (ex. habitat cleanups).

The goal of the event was to present and promote the vision of the CYCLADES LIFE project for the creation of a unique Marine Protected Area and to show that Gyaros is an example of harmonic coexistence between man and nature.
